Who is Shaun Leane and What Are His Most Famous Pieces?

Anglophiles know Shaun Leane as the jewelry designer of choice at Harrods. Those familiar with the work of fashion savant Alexander McQueen know that the two collaborated on a number of occasions. The most remarked upon results of this combined work was the Savage Beauty exhibition.

Leane himself began learning the art and science of jewelry design at the age of 15 when he entered an apprenticeship. During his training, the artisan learned about restorations, diamond mounting techniques, and goldsmith work. Over the course of time, he developed a style of his own, which is now the defining character of the Shaun Leane design house.

We have already discussed the attractive combination of black leather and silver in the form of a men’s bracelet in our last post. This time around, we would like to introduce you to other pieces by this designer. For example, there is the Hook My Heart jewel. It is a necklace that features 18k white gold and black enameling. A round diamond presents in a clasp. It weighs .02cts. The pendant portion hangs suspended from a 16-inch necklace. This item is new old stock.

Leane is also famous for his tribal deco pieces. Case in point is this onyx and diamond tassel lariat necklace. Once again, artisans used 18k white gold to put together the look of the piece. You notice clear inspiration from the Art Deco period, which the designer successfully fused with a tribal vibe. A total of 115 round onyx beads measure 5.5mm to 6mm. Another 204 round onyx beads show off a 3mm size.

At the tassel portion, 150 round diamonds weigh in at a combined 1.84cts. To present with an attractive color, the designer included 52 round green Tsavorite garnets with a total weight of .60cts. This necklace has a length of 40 inches. We have a matching pair of earrings to go with this jewel. They feature the tassel portions and the half moon with diamonds and Tsavorite garnets. The tribal deco onyx, diamond, and Tsavorite white gold dangle earrings present the complementing look.

There are eight round black onyx beads measuring 4mm to 4.5mm. An additional 78 round onyx beads display with sizes ranging from 2mm to 3.5mm. Artisans added 108 round green Tsavorite garnets with a combined weight of .76cts. Sparkle comes from 140 round full-cut diamonds with a collective weight of 1.68cts. From top to bottom, these dangle earrings measure 99.47mm; the width measurement is 26.91mm.
