Mikimoto, Akoya, Freshwater, and Natural Specimens: Our Favorite Pearl Jewels

Over the last few days, we have talked a lot about pearls. Some folks have been asking to see examples of the various types we discussed. After all, a picture is worth a thousand words. For this reason, we have put together a collection of our favorite pearl jewels. Which ones do you like the best?

Black Tahitian Mikimoto South Sea Pearl Necklace

This authentic Mikimoto creation consists of 39 cultured South Sea pearls. They are naturally black with peacock-green tones. It is fair to say that these are the most sought after pearls currently in existence. The piece features the Mikimoto 18k white gold catch that proves authenticity. For a look at what a real black South Sea pearl jewel should look like, you cannot go wrong with this necklace.

Akoya Pearl Bracelet in White Gold with Diamonds

If you love the look of authentic Akoya pearls, do not pass by this 1950s bracelet. Set in 14k white gold, you notice 42 Akoya pearls, half of which are black. They measure 7mm to 7.5mm. Adding sparkle to the mix is a snap with 42 round diamonds that weigh a combined 2.10cts. The luster of the white pearls and the peacock-green hue of the black specimens look fantastic together.

Freshwater Pearl Necklace with Diamonds from the Peter Suchy Workshop

This design is a Peter Suchy original. It features a 14k white gold catch from the 1960s. Notice the high luster of the 34 white Chinese freshwater Baroque pearls. They measure between 21.41mm by 14.43mm and 27.58mm by 16.1mm. We also added six Japanese white cultured pearls to the mix. They measure between 4mm and 5mm.

Since pearls combine perfectly with diamonds, we placed 21 single-cut stones with a total weight of .40cts along the strand. Also, note the two round full-cut diamonds weighing a collective .12cts. This strand presents with a length of 34 inches, which allows for comfortable wear.

Victorian Natural Pearl Pendant in Platinum with Gold and Diamonds

Natural pearls are the kinds of pieces that were accidental finds. This Victorian pendant comes from the 1850s and features a silver-to-white natural button pearl from a saltwater oyster. The setting consists of platinum backed with 20k yellow gold. Eight round saltwater pearls surround the find. They measure 3mm to 3.5mm. You also notice eight round old-European-cut diamonds with a collective weight of .16cts. The pendant measures 28.34mm from top to bottom and 22.04mm from side to side. It hangs suspended from a 16-inch chain.
