Some of Our Favorite Art Nouveau Pieces

The two decades between 1895 and 1915 are generally considered the premier years for the Art Nouveau movement. Commonly recognized as a romantic era in wearable art and also household decor, the common motifs included flora, fauna and plenty of curves.

Gold and gemstones were de rigueur for this style. The top name in the jewelry trade of the time was Rene Lalique, who is credited with creating the defining look for the movement. Dragonflies, swaying grasses and butterflies were favorite topics. It is interesting to note that Art Nouveau jewelry overlaps with two other jewelry styles, namely Edwardian era pieces and Art Deco designs.

At Peter Suchy Jewelry, we believe that you deserve access to the finest jewelry of bygone eras. Here are some examples of our Art Nouveau collection:

Yellow Gold Pin With a Pink Topaz Gemstone

Set in 14k solid yellow gold, the centerpiece of this pin is the pink topaz. Dating back to the 1880s, the gemstone features an emerald cut. Two natural pearls on either side provide balance between the curly leaf motif and the stone.

Gold Pin With Natural Pearls

Featuring the classic motifs of flora, fauna and the curves of the human form, this pin is made from 14k yellow gold. Crafted in the early days of 1900, the ornamentation takes the form of 19 3mm natural pearls as well as a European-cut diamond with a .03ct weight. This is a classic piece that will complement the style of a seasoned jewelry wearer. It is also suited to become an instant family heirloom.

Dragonfly Pin

Taking the dragonfly motif to new heights, this pin was made in the early 1900s. Demantoid garnets serve as eyes while jadeite jade functions as the wings. An Akoya cultured pearl makes up a 6mm portion of the gold insect’s body. The intricate detail work and the lifelike positioning of the dragonfly make this an irresistible piece for the collector who specializes in wearable art from this era.

Blue and White Enameled Pendant Locket

Lockets were quite popular in the late 1800s. This one features 14k solid yellow gold and detailed enameling. The colors blue and white work beautifully together. Open the locket to carry two pictures. A diamond and a 19-inch chain round out this masterpiece of Art Nouveau jewelry.

Solid Yellow Gold Pendant Locket

Created around 1900, this solid 14k yellow gold pendant locket measures 1.27 inches in diameter and features a lady’s face in the classic Art Nouveau style. The detail work is dramatic and hints at movement. This is the kind of piece any jewelry lover would appreciate as a present for a special occasion.
