There was always mystery surrounding Lana Turner. Born in
Wallace Idaho and named Julia Mildred Francis Turner, even her date of birth is
a subject of question—was it February 8, 1920? Or, was it February 8, 1921?
Another mystery that surrounded Lana included her daughter’s stabbing of boyfriend
and mobster Johnny Stompanato in 1958. Lana’s daughter Cheryl was acquitted of
the stabbing but some still wonder about the incident today.
Elizabeth Taylor isn’t the only Hollywood starlet to have
many husbands—Lana Turner had seven and married eight times—twice to Joseph
Stephen Crane. Her other husbands included, Artie Shaw, Henry J. Topping, Jr.,
Lex Barker of Tarzan fame, Frederick May, Robert P. Eaton and hypnotist Ronald
Pellar.
Everyone has their favorite Lana Turner movie—from The Postman Always Rings Twice to Imitation of Life, to The Bad & the Beautiful to Peyton Place for which she was nominated
for an Academy Award, Lana shined on the screen.
Actor Robert Taylor who starred with Lana in Johnny
Eager, said of her, “I couldn’t take my eyes off her,” and “I don’t think
she knew how to talk without being sexy,” and “When she said ‘good morning,’ I
melted.” In her movies we cheered for her, cried with her and always stood up
for her—she was that kind of Movie Star.
Discovered by Hollywood
Reporter Billy Wilkerson when sipping a Coke in a drugstore, Lana Turner
was first a pin-up girl and “the Sweater Girl.” Fascinating facts about Lana
include that she owned 689 pairs of shoes all stored in a special room with
tons of shelves and a ladder to boot, she suffered from the Rh blood factor,
and our favorite: When married to Artie Shaw, she had no idea she was his third
wife until one day he let something slip about his second wife! Taboo Artie!
As much as Lana
Turner shined on the screen, so did some of the jewelry pieces she wore for her
roles or for promotional appearances. Here, we match our jewelry to jewelry
worn by Lana Turner.
The Honky Tonk Sapphire Diamond Earrings
In 1941, Lana
co-starred with Clark Gable in the classic film Honky Tonk. On her ears she wore pear-cut synthetic sapphire and
diamond earrings totaling 2.64 carats each—stunning and sparkling as much as
the lady who wore them.
Our pick to match
these sapphire and diamond earrings? These lovely Victorian natural no-heat
3.50 carat royal blue sapphire platinum diamond earrings!
The Postman Always Rings Twice Bracelet
Sexy and steamy
were the words used to describe Lana’s performance in The Postman Always Rings Twice co-starring John Garfield. The pair
were T-N-T on the screen! In the film, Lana wore a stunning 23.94 carat diamond
bracelet with side baguettes. What the sparkler on such a pretty wrist.
Our match for
this popular style of bracelet more commonly known as the tennis bracelet? This
gorgeous estate 18k heavy swirl link diamond bracelet—also yellow gold like Lana’s with 28
round diamonds and approximately 3.00 carats!
“Promotional” Diamond Earrings
A favorite quote
from Lana was, “A successful man is one who makes more money than his wife can
spend. A successful woman is one who can find such a man.” Even with eight
marriages, her taste in jewelry always remained high on her list of fashion
must-dos—just as these 1.22 carat diamond earrings she often wore to promote
her films.
Our match to Lana’s diamond earrings? These circa 1950-1960
14k white gold .45 carat brilliant diamond dangle earrings—we think they match
perfectly and in fact, would have been a set Lana may have picked out on her
own.
