How to Transition from Spring to Summer Jewelry

Fashion style guides aside, there is a marked difference between the types of jewels we favor in the spring and those that we select in the summer. For starters, spring jewelry is frequently themed. A good example is this 1960s three-bird pin featuring 45 single-cut diamonds with a collective weight of .30cts and three baroque pearls measuring 12mm by 8mm. The 14k yellow gold setting material highlights the details of the birds and nesting material. You might choose this pin as a seasonal favorite when transitioning from your winter to spring accessories wardrobe.

If you adore birds and do not want to bid farewell to the depiction of feathered friends in the summer, consider replacing the spring-themed bird pin with a summery grey pearl lovebird necklace from the 1950s. Made of 18k yellow gold, Italian artisans used silver to gray cultured pearls to create the birds’ bodies. Enameling results in the display of vivid red, green yellow and blue colors. This whimsical presentation combines well with all types of wardrobe choices.

Sometimes, however, it is not the themed exchange that allows for the ideal transition. In these cases, it may be the size of the gemstones. Usually, summer is the time for smaller gems. While we are not entirely certain why this is the case, we have noticed that buyers during this season will prefer smaller stones than those customers shopping at any other time. Perhaps it is the increase in physical activity that appears to make a smaller stone less hampering to tennis matches, hikes and afternoon strolls combined with shopping. Take for example this late Art Deco ring with a 4.91cts periwinkle blue sapphire. Artisans set it in platinum and added 12 single-cut diamonds with a combined weight of .15cts to enhance the sparkle of the piece.

This is the kind of ring that attracts plenty of attention during spring, fall and winter. When talking to summer shoppers, we usually notice an interest in the types of jewels that are more in line with this 2.63cts light blue sapphire and white diamond ring in platinum. Just as much a stunning beauty at its larger counterpart, this ring comes from our workshop and was customized for the stones. It is the ideal summer ring for the gal who loves to wear blue. Accessorizing your wardrobe with this beauty is no problem.

When you transition your spring jewelry to your summer collection, we recommend taking in your spring pieces for a professional cleaning and settings check. Doing so in summer ensures that you do not need the jewels as accessories but have them ready when next year’s spring season arrives.
