Gregg Ruth Jewelry: From Retailer to Designer

Gregg Ruth has built an international following. Growing up with parents who ran a Pennsylvania jewelry store, Ruth initially believed that his calling would be jewelry retail. Yet when he went into business with the elder Ruth in the 1970s, he realized that this trade did not permit him the artistic expression he was searching for.

Understanding that retail jewelry may not be the right venue but that the trade itself was in his blood, Ruth turned to the wholesale side of the business. Forging trade relationships with Italian artisans, he imported gold jewelry from Italy. By 1995, he expanded to include diamonds. In particular, fancy color diamonds and import gems caught Ruth’s eye.

Before long, the fancy colored diamond center stone became a trademark of Ruth’s product lines. Pink and yellow are the favorite colors for these collections. Playing around with micropave settings, Ruth has succeeded in working with stones from one carat all the way to 10 carats.

Currently, there are 10 distinctive collections to choose from.

  1. Atoure. Made up of three distinct rings, this collection focuses on the halo effect and the solitaire setting.
  2. Color Crown. At the centers of these rings and earrings are beautifully displayed gems. Rubies, emeralds and sapphires lend their gorgeous color hues to these stunning pieces. Match earrings and rings for an ensemble.
  3. Espris. Framed with diamonds, colored gems create vibrant looks and designs.
  4. Espris Couture. A solid diamond bangle with plenty of stones, this piece is exquisite. If you have to ask the cost, the odds are good that you cannot afford this collection.
  5. Fancy Color Diamonds. Yellow diamonds are the main attraction of these pieces. They come in a variety of sizes and settings. Combine bracelets and rings for casual or formal looks.
  6. GrExotic. The coloring of the pear-shaped stone is deep and vibrant.
  7. Important Precious Color. These earrings display gems in complimentary cuts. The detail work of the pieces is intriguing.
  8. Karina. Consisting of a diamond round bracelet, this item is for the serious jewelry buyer who loves to show off the brilliance of the gems against the skin of the wearer.
  9. Sonais. Stud earrings and matching pendants allow for the setup of a basic jewelry wardrobe.
  10. Tessera. Large yellow diamond centerpieces set the tone for cocktail rings that bespeak luxury and the love of brilliance and shine.
It is easy to pick out Ruth’s pieces from other jewelry items featuring gems. These pieces have an inimitable shine and brightness that stands out anywhere. At this time, the artisan is experimenting with rubellite and tourmaline. Working on ways to display these gems as center stones, he uses classical as well as modern style elements.
